A proud stockholder of Coca-Cola...first share (1) given by Bill and Carolyn Self, this native Atlantan stays busy doing odd jobs. His business card states A MAN FOR ALL REASONS...well, ok, Some Reasons. Accomplishments?: Earned a real estate license in Florida...traveled for 2 years, 26,270 miles, 34 states, in a 9-year-old Chevy Nova...Associate Editor of state Baptist weekly…Associate VP at a small Baptist college, and oh, yes, the undefeated head football coach of a program which, incidentally, didn’t have an actual team. Baptist Monk, Philosopher, and Brother to Marie and Eleanor of Brown High, and Jimmy (SW, Class of 1962). Future Goals: To be asked to deliver a Commencement Address, and to die in my sleep. Go ‘Noles!

School Story

* I introduced an all-girl band lip-singing the Beatles' "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" number at a school talent show during the 8th grade (1962-63)
* I became mildly famous by writing plays, commercials included, in Ms. Baggett's English class (8th grade). At least, she was a fan.
* Alan Laxon and I paired up to collect monies in surrounding neighborhoods for the Empty Stocking Fund; we got number one and two in totals (...Alan got a LITTLE more cash and A LOT more recognition from ROTC officers; while I got stuck with automobile expenses. Alan, you owe me.)
* I liked being the teacher's pet for most classes, but I often got in trouble by passing notes to Judy Lyon in my 11th(?) grade history class.
* I have a vague memory of Terri Robertson and her flavored lipsticks.
* In driver's education class, we met at 6:30am to drive around in brand new 1965 Chevy Impalas. My instructor once had his arm up into the open window as I was driving and said, "branches on the side of the road are hitting my arm." I remember telling him to take his arm out of the window.
* I won a train trip to national Junior Achievement Conference in Indiana. Cincinnati attendees offered to make me an honorary citizen by kissing me. I accepted.
* I circulated 59 issues of The Monthly Most Magazine during my high school years. Connie Barrett was named Miss Monthly Most for our senior year; Jeannie Hester was first runner-up. The court included Sharon McEver, Sandy Gill, and Lynn Lavender. Others, too, got 25-cent scholarships awarded like Elizabeth Cleland (who still has her certificate!). One of the school counselors was going to announce the award to Connie at school's Annual Honors Day, but she got sick...and the other counselor did not pick up the slack. :-/

Ran across an article I put in THE MONTHLY MOST about Steve Baldwin and Clark Hill concocting a scheme of a funeral for an edition of THE HOWL. As Sports Editor, Steve was working on an article on obituaries of sport greats. I know as a part of the Youth Choir at Beecher Hills Baptist, we enjoyed our parody acting debuts.

SW alums, enjoy your week!

SATURDAY NIGHT MEMORIES --
I ran across this note signed in an old Resume' -- A lovely sentiment from a Russell High student in which she thanked me for the "greatest night of her life (so far)".

Well, I wish I could remember what happened. :-)

Yes, indeed, you would think if we went to something called a "Skitzoflimgrub" or "Skitzoflubgrim" that I would remember something. :-/

Hope your past and current Saturday Nights are going well, my fellow Class of '67 wolves.

Ellen, here you are "stylin'" around town with me and Russell High student Miriam Sailers. We were all members of Youth for Christ clubs of Atlanta.
